Tips to Drain Maintenance

Clogged drains occur often in homes. Most could be eliminated or minimized by simple routine maintenance!

  1.   No Food Residues
    • This is the most common cause of blockages in the kitchen drain. You should always clear all plates and dishes of leftover food before washing.
     2.    Grease and other Oily fluids
    • Oily liquids tend to solidify once they cool. You should avoid putting any down you drains. Strain off the liquids and throw them in the trash to avoid a bad day with a clog drain!
      3.    Flush Drains with Hot Water
    • Most often, the scum and dirt that attaches to your drain lines can effectively be washed away with hot water. Flushing your drains once a week for a few minutes with hot water, just may save you from a stinky clog drain!
     4.    Use Mr. Plunger
    •  Mr. Plunger is your friend, and can be the best tool to have around when a drain appears to become slow! Just fill the sink with 3-4 inches of water and then “Plunge” with Vigor! This should help your problem flow away.
     5.    Tub Drains
    • Hair and scum are the major problem here! Look into the cross in the bottom of the tub drain, remove hair caught on it. The clog could be further down in the line and a drain machine may be needed.

     6.    Drain Maintenance Products
    • Use enzymes in your drain to avoid problems. These products can be purchased at most hardware stores. Follow the instructions to keep your drains running free. Isley’s sells a product called Bio Clean! It Works Great!!!
